Myomas can be removed using either open or laparoscopic (minimally invasive) methods. At our hospital, we perform laparoscopic myomectomy. The benefits of this approach include less pain, reduced infection risk, quicker return to daily activities, and smaller scars compared to open surgery. In laparoscopic myomectomy, the myoma is removed from the uterus and then broken into smaller pieces (morselation) before being extracted through small incisions in the abdomen. Depending on the size of the myoma, the procedure typically takes 1-2 hours. A one-night hospital stay is recommended.
