NUTRITION AND DIET

Today, it’s widely-known that it is important to have the knowledge of proper nutrition for a healthy and quality life. For this reason, the health professionals in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics carry out 'personal nutrition programs', which is sanitary and therapeutic in some cases. Carrying out nutritional therapies for the inpatients and preparing the menus to be included in the nutritional therapy for the inpatients which are determined by doctors and/or nutritionists are among the most important duties of the department. Nutritionists monitor the process, starting from the preparation of the menu in accordance with the treatment of the patient until it is delivered to the patient, as they carry out their duties. In addition, they also give courses to patients on nutrition at home during their stay at the hospital, if necessary, and organize their nutritional treatments.

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, which prepares personal nutritional plans for patients, tries to teach healthy nutrition and to change the nutritional behaviours of patients who ask for help for their health-related problems. That is why, the dietary habits of patients are scrutinized in the first examination. The body fat, muscle and water ratio and distribution of the existing fat in the body are first calculated for those who want to get nutritional counselling or for patients. Then, nutritionists prepare a 'personal nutritional treatment’ according to the age, height, sex, physical activity and blood values of the patient and monitor the process regularly. They also create nutritional programs for individuals with special conditions such as diabetes, pregnancy and breastfeeding or those who are going through childhood and adolescence, give courses and monitor their progress.
